# Niches Playbook — PCDesigner

A working catalogue of niche product opportunities derived from the PCDesigner core. Each niche is a focused offshoot — same engine, different templates, simplified UX, dedicated landing page. Use the `pcd-niche-strategist` skill to plan, then come back here to update with what you learn.

## How to read this doc

Every niche entry has:

```
ICP            who they are
JTBD           what they hire the product for
Templates      seed pack count + style direction
Pre-flight     DPI / bleed / color mode / font shortlist
UX cuts        editor controls hidden by default
Output         PDF spec / CMYK / cut-line
Fulfilment     DIY / partner / dropship
Pricing        starter offer
GTM            top channel
Risk           the one thing that kills it
```

## Building a niche — quick file plan

For any niche above, the engineering shape is the same:

```
includes/niches/<slug>/
  ├── class-<slug>-loader.php       (loads on Settings → Niches toggle)
  ├── class-<slug>-templates.php    (seeds templates on activation)
  ├── class-<slug>-guideline.php    (pre-flight rules)
  └── data/
      ├── templates/*.json
      └── starter-cliparts/*.svg
templates/niches/<slug>/
  └── studio-<slug>.php             (editor wrapper; hides irrelevant tools)
views/niches/<slug>/                (admin landing, optional)
```

Plus:

- A landing page on the Printcart site, scoped by niche.
- A WP shortcode `[pcdesigner-studio niche="<slug>"]`.
- A telemetry tag so cohort analysis can compare niches.

## Niche selection score (do this when choosing the next 1–2)

```
Print volume / order   1–5
Average order value    1–5
DIY pain               1–5
Compliance load        1–5 (negative — high compliance hurts)
Visual novelty (3D/AR) 1–5
WP install base        1–5
Competitor strength    1–5 (negative)
Margin headroom        1–5
Repeatable channel     1–5
Total                  ≤ 45
```

Pick at most one niche per quarter. Concentration beats breadth here.

## Anti-patterns

- Launching 3 niches at once ("all of the above") — kills focus.
- Re-using the full editor unchanged — niche customers want fewer choices.
- Skipping pre-flight — niche printing has zero margin for error.
- Promising fulfilment SLA before partner contract.
- Free → paid story not visible from day one of the landing page.
