2 CONT Another letter by John E. Carlisle says, "My grandfather settled in Nottingham and no one seems to know where he came from. His name was John and he died when 58 years of age. He was buried in Dec. 1841. His father was supposed to have been Joh
2 CONC n and I am told that he lived in London. My grandfather had a number of brothers and sisters. He was fairly well educated."

2 CONT Yet another letter says, "An old lady, a sister of my father, told me that her grandfather was a miller in London and that his name was John etc. She says her father joined the army, was wounded and left and never returned to his father's home b
2 CONC ecause he was too proud. However this may be, it seems that he was alienated from his relatives for some reason.  "

2 CONT General Carlisle research notes:
2 CONT Mary Shannon had two daughters in Leeds, probably in the Woodhouse neighborhood of Leeds, but we'll probably never be able to prove it.

2 CONT One daughter, Mary Ann, got married to a Twells, had at least one child, then moved out of there and in with Enoch Cassaday with whom she had I think four children.  Then when William Twells died, Mary Ann officially married Enoch Cassaday.

2 CONT The other daughter, Elizabeth, married John Wakefield.
2 CONT
2 CONT Then regarding Mary Hooley, she had two children out of wedlock with a brewer, first Rachel Hooley and then I think Samuel Hooley, before she married John Carlile.  They had several children together.  There are questions about two children name

2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Dennis Lythgoe tells the following as related to him by his mother, Lavinia, Alfred's daughter:
2 CONT Alfred was a strange man--quiet, a tightwad, and sometimes a wife beater. Leo (Lavinia's husband) despised him.
2 CONT      Since he was a hairdresser, Lavinia took the children to him for free haircuts, but he seldom said much during the visits ("Open your eyes!" was about all, says Dennis). He owned a string of salons, but later lost them all due to poor manag

2 CONT      He didn't want to spend any of his money on his family, and even refused to buy Lavinia glasses when she needed them. She went for three or four years without them. Dennis attributes some of Lavinia's idiosyncratic behaviors to he upbringin

2 CONT      Once Alfred came home and found that dinner was not ready. As a punishment for his wife, he told all the children to get their coats on. He was going to take them all to a restaurant--but not Beatrice, his wife. Lavinia was so angry that sh

2 CONT      Another time Alfred was so angry with Beatrice that he started choking her and might have killed her had not one of his sons pulled him off in time.
2 CONT      Uncle Tom contributes the following: At 14 he ran away from home and didn't come back for six years. His parents had put him on a farm, and he didn't like that. His father may have been mean to him. While away he worked in mines and learned
2 CONC e a barber. He was found in Oregon by some missionaries who told him "Your mother misses you." He went back to Logan, where he met Beatrice Carlisle. He told her, "If you don't marry me, I'll kill myself."
2 CONT      His parents cut him out of their will. According to daughter Ruth Mitchell Challis, this was due to an incident that happened while Alfred was boxing. Apparently he was a boxer at one time, and once his opponent died in the ring. Ruth say
